One $1200 scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound senior who resides in Columbia County and has participated in XC or T&F for 2 years.
The scholarship winner, selected by a 5-person Advisory Committee convened by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, will be announced in February and introduced at Sean’s Run at Chatham High School.
The Sean Patrick French Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by the family of Sean Patrick French following his tragic death as a passenger in an underage drunk driving car wreck on January 1, 2002 and is administered by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. Sean was a popular junior at Chatham High School, an honor roll student and a record-setting runner. He held several school and conference distance running records, ran a 4:18 mile as a 16-year old sophomore and finished second in the State cross country meet as a freshman. The Scholarship Fund is administered by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. In addition to the “Good Sportsmanship” Scholarships for runners from Section II, the Fund also supports the “Love of Running” Scholarships for high school runners from Columbia County and Community Service Scholarships for seniors graduating from Chatham High School. Past recipients and the Fund, can be found here.
