$208,266 Given by Sean’s Run Weekend
Chatham, March 8, 2016 - Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and participants, the amount awarded by Sean’s Run as grants to schools and youth groups across the region and as scholarships to deserving high school students from the capital district has exceeded $200,000. In March 2016, Sean’s Run awarded 15 grants and three scholarships raising the total awarded to $208,266 since the first Sean’s Run in 2002.
Schools and youth groups awarded grants to implement programs to combat underage drinking, impaired driving and lax use of seatbelts by teenagers and implement a local Battle of the Belts seatbelt buckling contest. The grants are also used to bring students to Sean’s Run to participate in the World Championship Battle of the Belts.
Grant winners include, from Columbia County: Chatham MS SADD, Chatham HS SADD, Hudson HS SADD, New Lebanon Central School, Taconic Hills SADD. From Dutchess County: Council on Addiction and Prevention Education and Stissing Mt. HS SADD. In Montgomery County: Fonda-Fultonville HS Student Government. In Rensselaer County: Algonquin MS SADD, Averill Park HS SADD and Maple Hill HS SADD. In Saratoga County: Shenendehowa HS SADD. In Schenectady County: Mohonasen HS SADD, Remove Intoxicated Drivers (RID) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
