Sean’s Run Weekend 2014 Sponsors Announced

February 10, 2014:  First Niagara Bank will again serve as the Presenting Sponsor of Sean’s Run Weekend.  The 13th edition of the annual event on Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27, is expected to attract over 1,700 participants from across the region to Chatham.

First Niagara Bank is joined by a group of 56 other businesses and individuals that are sponsoring Sean’s Run Weekend, one of the largest multi-sports events in the region, with the number of participants quadrupling since its beginning.

The Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation is back as a Gold Medal Sponsor.  The Foundation is supporting the work of the Sean’s Run committee to fund programs at schools and youth groups designed to encourage safe driving by teens, as well as awarding scholarships to deserving high school seniors. In its 13-year history, Sean’s Run has awarded $183,571 in grants and scholarships, thanks to the generosity of sponsors and participants.

The Register Star and Chatham Courierhave again been designated as the 2014 Sean’s Run Weekend Media Sponsor.

Sean’s Run originated in 2002 as a 5K run/walk in memory of Sean Patrick French, who was killed as a passenger in an underage drunk-driving car crash on January 1st of that year.  Sean’s Run has become the area’s springtime reminder about the pervasive problems of underage drinking, impaired driving and lax use of seatbelts by teenagers.

The 5K continues as the flagship activity for the weekend.  Sunday activities now also include Meghan’s Mile youth race sponsored by Newkirk of Albany, a tribute to victims of drunk driving, a Prevention Education Expo and the World Championship Battle of the Belts sponsored by Rensselaer Honda, which is a contest to encourage increased use of seatbelts by teenagers.

Saturday activities include a Zumbathon® sponsored by Dells’ Plumbing, Heating and A/C Service of Ghent.  Also on that day is the Super Saturday Run for Special Needs Kids Race for children with developmental disabilities, Sponsored by Sea Jem of Boston.

The Lofgren Agency has signed on to be the presenting sponsor of Sean’s Rides, the 50- and 20-mile support bicycle rides for participants of all abilities. Hudson Engineering PLLC is back as the 50-mile sponsor, and New Leaf Tree Services, Inc. of Chatham is a first-time sponsor of the 20-mile ride.

Other new sponsors of the weekend include Old Chatham Country Store & Café in Old Chatham, Michele’s Floral Design from Troy, and Screen Designs of Colonie.

Other Bike Ride sponsors include Federation of Polish Sportsmen of Greenport,  Robert Pinkowski and Kimberly Chrysler of Hudson; W. B. MASON; Dr. Bill Primomo, DDS of Albany; Cardona’s Market in Albany; Sam’s Italian Restaurant in Albany; Our Daily Bread of Chatham; RNL Entertainment of Amsterdam; Steiner’s Sports in Glenmont, Hudson, and Valatie; DJ Mxamis from Chatham.

Northeast Pest Control of Troy is underwriting the cost of special gifts given to the first 350 participants who pick up packets on Saturday, April 26th.

Howard, Esq. of Hudson; Blass Communications of Old Chatham; Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson; Trowbridge Farms of Ghent; Stewarts Shops of Saratoga Springs; and Price Chopper Supermarkets with headquarters in Schenectady.
